Renewals
How do I know when my registration renewal is due?
As a registered teacher you can check your renewal expiry by logging in to your My Registration account.
The Teaching Council will also issue a renewal reminder email prior to the renewal date to the email address held on your record. For this purpose, it is important to ensure that your contact details, email, mobile number and address are always up to date to avoid missing any important correspondence.
I am trying to renew my registration, but my renewal is blocked.
If you have condition(s) of registration expiring within six months of your renewal date and/or if you have been requested to complete re-vetting, you will not be able to renew your registration until you address these requirements.
Failure to address these requirements may result in removal from the Register.
Where can I find my registration renewal receipt?
You can access your e-receipt and e-Card on the My Registration section of the Council’s website.
I am experiencing issues when completing my online renewal application.
If you experience any issues when completing your renewal application online, please take a screenshot of the error message received and email to renewals@teachingcouncil.ie and we will support you through the process.
Note: In some cases, teachers are experiencing issues when trying to update their employment details when carrying out the renewal application process. We are investigating this issue, however, if you experience this, please continue with your application to renew without updating your employment. Once you have successfully completed the renewal process, you can then log in to your My Registration account and update your employment details there.
I have forgotten my username/password.

If you no longer have access to this email address, you will have to update your username by emailing myreghelp@teachingcouncil.ie. Extension requests
My outstanding condition(s) of registration is expiring soon, and I have not addressed my condition(s) – what do I do now?
If you are nearing the expiry date of your condition(s) and you will not be in a position to address your condition by that date, the following are options open to you:
Option 1: You may voluntarily remove yourself from the Register and apply to return when your circumstances have changed to allow you to address your condition.
OR
Option 2: Apply for an extension of time to address your condition.
- Extensions are granted at the discretion of the Council
- Supporting documentation will be required for an extension request i.e.
- Proof you are employed as a teacher in the Republic of Ireland.
- Proof that you have been actively applying for teaching positions that will help address your condition.
- Proof you are registered to attend a recognised course that will address your condition.
Further information may be found here.
- Extension requests are submitted online by logging in to your MyRegistration account and select “Submit Extension Request” button on the My Conditions page.
- Extension requests may be submitted 6 months prior to the expiration date of your condition(s)
Processing Times
The average processing times for extension requests are 4 – 8 weeks from the date of receipt of the application and all required documentation. You can track the status of the progress of your extension request by logging in to your My Registration account, choose the ‘My Conditions’ tile and select ‘Track your Extension Request’ at the end of that page.
Failure to complete your condition(s) or apply for an extension will result in you lapsing from the Register.
What happens if I voluntarily remove myself from the Register whilst holding conditional registration?
Voluntarily removing yourself from the Register allows you to deactivate your conditional registration until such a time that you are in a position to address the condition.
If you choose to voluntary remove yourself from the Register and have a balance of time remaining to address the condition attached to your registration, you will retain this balance of time, and it will be reapplied should you decide to apply to return to the register.
Should you wish to apply to return to the Teaching Council Register in the future, there is a tailored process in place to support this. Further information on how to return to the Register can be found on the Council’s website Return to the Register | Register to Teach | The Teaching Council
To voluntarily remove yourself from the Register, please log in to the My Registration portal and select the option for Voluntary Removal
Why is Route 3 – Further Education still showing on my registration after registering under Route 1 Primary and do I still require it? How do I remove it?
- If you initially registered under Route 3 Further Education, i.e. when you were completing your PME in Primary Education and have subsequently registered under Route 1 Primary, Route 3 – Further Education will not be removed from your registration unless you request that the Teaching Council do so.
- If you no longer require registration under Route 3 – Further Education, you may request removal of this route by emailing tcregistration@teachingcouncil.ie. Please ensure to include your registration number in your email.
- If you wish to maintain registration under Route 3 Further Education you are required to complete a Teacher Education Qualification in Further Education specifically, by the condition expiry date. Link to accredited programmes here.
- If your question is regarding salary, this is outside the remit of the Teaching Council and we suggest that you contact the Department of Education.
Droichead
How and when can I apply for Droichead?
- Droichead applications open each year in early September and close in March. The exact closing date is available on our website and social media from January. You cannot start or apply for Droichead before you commence employment. If you are employed in more than one school, please provide employment details to Conditions at conditions@teachingcouncil.ie to check eligibility. You cannot start or apply for Droichead if you are registered under Route 3 – Further Education while waiting for your Route 1- Primary or Route 2 – Post-primary registration to go through, even if you have started employment in an eligible setting.
Can I complete Droichead while on a part-time, shared SET or EAL contract?
If you are employed on a part-time, shared SET or EAL contract, please provide all information in relation to your position to Conditions at conditions@teachingcouncil.ie to check eligibility.
To complete Droichead, a primary NQT must complete a minimum block of 60 consecutive days (excluding weekends, bank holidays and school holidays) in an eligible setting. A post-primary NQT must complete a minimum block of 200 teaching hours in an eligible setting. It should be noted that these are absolute minimum periods of practice. Given that Droichead, as an induction framework, is designed to provide the maximum degree of support, guidance and advice, it is recommended, where an NQT has additional time in his/her school, that extra time be used to support the Droichead process.
How can I show my employer I have completed Droichead?
The Teaching Council does not issue certificates of Droichead completion. You may login to your portal account and download an updated version of your registration certificate once you’ve completed Droichead.
I’m having a technical issue with adding my PST members.
Firstly, you need to ensure you have the correct registration numbers. Once you have keyed in your PST’s registration numbers on your Droichead application form, you will need to click on the search icon, then select the PST and click on Ok. If you are still getting an error message, please email a screenshot to conditions@teachingcouncil.ie. If your PST members have just completed training, please allow a few days for their status to be updated.
