Guide to applying for re-vetting

The Teaching Council works with the National Vetting Bureau, on behalf of teachers in Ireland, for vetting clearance including criminal record disclosures (if applicable).

The steps to follow are explained below.

Please follow each step to ensure that your application is processed smoothly.

Re-vetting involves a two-stage application process.

Two stages of vetting

Vetting involves a two-stage application process. Both stages are done online.

  • Stage 1 is completed through your My Registration account
  • Stage 2 is completed through the National Vetting Bureau eVetting portal
  1. Complete stage 1 of the online re-vetting application through your My Registration account.
  2. Upload proof of identification documents.

Please read the vetting proof of ID and address policy carefully to prevent delays to your application. Only documents included on this policy are accepted by the National Vetting Bureau.

You are not required to provide overseas police clearance documents.

The Teaching Council checks your application and proof of ID documents and submits your application to the National Vetting Bureau.

  1. You will receive an email from the National Vetting Bureau with a link to the online Vetting Application Form.
  2. You need to fill out the form and include all your addresses from birth to the present including all overseas addresses.

If you lived in Northern Ireland, you will need to enter full postcodes (six characters) for each Northern Ireland address.

Please note that your application may be delayed if you do not include all of your addresses, including addresses outside of the Republic of Ireland when completing the NVB eVetting application.

Timeline

You have 30 days to complete the e-Vetting form from the date you receive it, but we ask you to do it as soon as possible.

If you do not complete it within the 30-day period, the link will expire. If the link expires, please email vetting@teachingcouncil.ie and we will send you a new link.

Important information

Please read the National Vetting Bureau user guide before completing the eVetting form.

National Vetting Bureau mandatory questions

There are two mandatory questions on the National Vetting Bureau eVetting portal form which must be answered correctly, or your application will be rejected. The questions are:

If you answered Yes to this question, you must list the address(es) where you have lived in the EU state or in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

If you have answered No to this question, you must not list any addresses where you have lived in the EU state or in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

The National Vetting Bureau will reject your application if you answer these questions incorrectly.

You must answer yes to this question.

As you are applying for registration you must apply to the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) for a vetting disclosure. If you tick No to this question the NVB will reject your application, and you cannot continue with your application for registration or renewal of registration (re-vetting).
